Welcome
Welcome to the website of the Department of Medical Physics and Informatics, University of Szeged. The site provides information about the most important events, teaching commitments and scientific activities within the research groups.
The Department was established in 2010, as a result of merging the former departments of Medical Informatics and Medical Physics and Biophysics. The Department plays a prominent role in graduate and postgraduate teaching, talent management and scientific research activities at the Albert Szent-Györgyi Medical School and at three further faculties: those of Science, Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The course contents mainly cover the most important concepts of Medical physics, Medical statistics and Medical informatics. The curriculum gives comprehensive insights into basic physical principles required for the understanding of vital processes, and include applied information technology tools for medical data analyses, biomedical technologies and their implementations in health sciences.
The widespread multidisciplinary scientific activity of the department ranges from basic to translational and clinical research areas, and involves collaboration with distinguished national and international affiliates. The scientific interests of the research groups includes lung mechanics, cerebrovascular investigations, applied biostatistics and mathematical modelling, molecular biophysics and telemedicine.
The department staff is committed not only to deliver theoretical education, but more importantly, to provide knowledge directly usable in medical practice, thereby advancing the innovative use of physics and information technologies in life sciences.
