COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Informatics course aims to educate students on the use of modern information technologies for effective work in life sciences. Upon completion of the course, the student will acquire a basic knowledge of information technology in health systems that can be effectively applied in practice. Students will be able to organize, process, and visualize biomedical data. They will also acquire the basic IT skills and practical techniques required for documentation, presentation, and various areas of computer communication.

The practicals are designed to teach basic IT skills, computer-aided analysis of biomedical data, documentation and presentation activities, as well as various areas of computer communication. Practicals will provide background knowledge for managing health databases on the web, processing and interpreting health data, presenting the results, and preparing the necessary documentation. Students will also learn through practical demonstrations about the use of smart telemedicine tools.

Syllabus of the practicals

  1. General information, hardware and software environment of the practice, CooSpace, eduID, Office 365, MS Teams
  2. Smart telemedicine devices and applications in practice (data collection)
  3. Introduction to spreadsheets using MS Excel (data input, validation, autofill, references)
  4. Evaluation of medical data with spreadsheets (calculations, functions, basic statistics, real mathematical functions)
  5. Evaluation of medical data with spreadsheets (basic statistics, advanced functions)
  6. Evaluation of medical data with spreadsheets (charts, sorting, filtering)
  7. Evaluation and presentation of medical data with spreadsheets (regression, large tables, pivot table)
  8. 1st practical test
  9. Creating scientific presentation (PowerPoint, Prezi, Mentimeter)
  10. Medical data on the web. Creating online medical surveys and forms
  11. Documents, formatting large documents (styles, table of contents, figures and captions, list of figures)
  12. Advanced document editing (header, footer, footnote, endnote, cross reference, references)
  13. 2nd practical test
